The Experience

Why the Maipo Day Starts Here

The shared four-winery route most travellers book, from a family farm to a historic estate, with pickup at your door.

Highlights

  • Meet alpacas, llamas and chickens on the La Quirinca farm, then taste its wine and Chilean pisco.
  • Work through red, white and sparkling wine, plus pisco, olive oil and cheese, across four wineries.
  • Compare small family winemaking with larger, long-established estates in the course of a single day.
  • Break for lunch around 12:30 pm at TerraMater's Zinfandel restaurant and browse its olive oil shop.
  • End at Undurraga's barrel cellar on the Premium Route, or among Viña Ballek's vines by the Maipo River.
  • Ride door to door from your Santiago hotel or Airbnb, returning in the early evening.

  • Winery restaurant lunch only on the Traditional + Lunch Included option

Choosing Your Maipo Day in Four Decisions

Settle these in order and the right tour picks itself.

  1. Several wineries or one

A shared four-winery day gives you four tastings and a broad view of Maipo winemaking in about 10 hours. A single estate such as Concha y Toro, Undurraga or Cousiño Macul fits into a morning or an afternoon and goes deeper into one house. Decide this first, because it sets the length, the price and the pace.

  2. Shared seat or private car

Shared days start from $119 per person on Viator. Private Maipo days cost far more and price by party size: the Concha y Toro, Santa Rita and Undurraga day runs from $636 per person for two and $986 for one traveller, falling to $434 each for a group of eight.

  3. Settle lunch before you pay

Lunch decides the real cost of a Maipo day. On the four-winery tour only the Traditional + Lunch Included option covers the meal. The Concha y Toro half days include no food beyond the tastings, while the Santa Rita day and the private three-estate day put a full lunch in the price.

  4. Pick the network and pickup

Viator holds the cheaper four-winery listing and the Concha y Toro bus trips, which leave from fixed meeting points with no hotel pickup. GetYourGuide is the place for Undurraga with a hotel transfer and for the Cousiño Macul heritage tour, where you make your own way to the winery in Peñalolén.

MAIPO VALLEY GUIDE

Which Maipo Valley Wine Tour Fits Your Day

Why Maipo first, the four tour formats, and when each one beats the others.

For a first wine day out of Santiago, book the Maipo Valley Wine Tour with 4 wineries, pisco and optional lunch on Viator. It starts from $119 per person, holds 4.9 from 2,725 reviews on Viator, and is the most-reviewed Maipo tour on this site (prices checked October 2026). In about 10 hours you taste at four wineries, from a family farm with alpacas to a long-established estate, with pickup at your hotel or Airbnb. The operator, Stamp’s Tour, also sells the day on GetYourGuide as the Maipo Valley Wine Tour to Four Wineries, from $149 per person with 4.8 from 620 GetYourGuide reviews.

That day suits most visitors, but of the three valleys within reach of the city, the Maipo offers the widest range of tour formats. The rest of this page is about the other shapes a Maipo day can take, and about when another valley is the better trip.

Why Maipo comes first

Distance is the first reason. Chile’s tourism board puts the first Maipo vineyards about 50 km from Santiago, roughly an hour by road on Route 5 South, and one historic winery, Cousiño Macul, sits inside the city at Avenida Quilín 7100 in Peñalolén. The Casablanca Valley is about 80 km west on Ruta 68, around an hour’s drive depending on traffic. Santa Cruz, the centre of the Colchagua Valley, is about 180 km south, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours each way.

The wine is the second. The tourism board calls the Maipo the cradle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, and Wines of Chile adds Merlot, Syrah and Carménère to the reds that do well under its hot, dry summers. If you drink red, this is the valley that makes Chile’s best-known style.

History is the third. Matías Cousiño bought the Hacienda Macul in 1856, Santa Rita was founded at Alto Jahuel in 1880, Concha y Toro at Pirque in 1883 and Undurraga at Talagante in 1885. Casablanca’s first vineyard was planted in 1982, so the old cellars, parks and family stories of the 19th-century estates are a Maipo experience.

Then there is choice. Of the 53 Santiago wine tours we track on Viator and GetYourGuide, 28 visit the Maipo, against 20 for Casablanca and 5 for Colchagua. That depth is why you can book a 1-hour tasting, a half day, a full day with lunch or a private car here.

Two cases point elsewhere. If you prefer white wine, or you want Valparaíso and the coast in the same day, our Casablanca Valley wine tours page is the better start. If you have a big budget and a long day to spend on a few premium estates, look at Colchagua Valley wine tours.

Format one: the multi-winery day

This is the format for tasting widely. On the Stamp’s Tour day you start at La Quirinca, a family farm winery with alpacas, llamas and chickens where wine is poured with Chilean pisco, then move to Santa Ema and TerraMater, where the Zinfandel restaurant is the lunch stop around 12:30 pm. You get tastings at all four wineries and full guided visits at two. The Premium Route ends with the complete Undurraga tour and its barrel cellar; the Traditional options end at Viña Ballek by the Maipo River. “Great day in the Maipo Valley visiting a range of wineries,” wrote one reviewer in June 2026.

Lunch is in the price only on the Traditional + Lunch Included option, so price that option on your date before you compare. Our 4-winery tours page sets this day against the four-winery days in Casablanca, and our breakdown of the Maipo four-winery day covers each option.

If food matters as much as wine, the same operator’s Maipo Valley Wine and Food Trail swaps one tasting for a Chilean breakfast tasting, an open-air tasting at a riverside vineyard and a fire-cooked meal at Labranza Restaurant, included only on the Full wine trail option. It costs from $135 per person, rates 4.8 from 69 reviews on Viator, and adds a Portuguese-speaking guide.

Format two: one famous estate in half a day

A single estate leaves the afternoon free and goes deeper into one house. Turistik’s Concha y Toro Premium Wine Center Tour takes about 5 hours from a central meeting point, with the park, the Casillero del Diablo cellar and four premium wines, from $105 per person and 4.8 from 934 reviews on Viator. There is no hotel pickup and no lunch. Our Concha y Toro tours page compares it with the Marqués de Casa Concha tasting and the GetYourGuide versions.

For Undurraga, the GetYourGuide Undurraga Vineyard Tour and Tasting with Hotel Transfer collects you in central Santiago, Las Condes or Providencia and gives about 1.5 hours with the winery’s own guide, from $60 per person with 4.8 from 92 GetYourGuide reviews. See our Undurraga winery tours page for the other ways to visit that estate.

The shortest Maipo visit on this page is the Cousiño Macul Heritage Wine Tour, sold on GetYourGuide by the winery itself: 1 to 1.5 hours in the old cellars with three wines, from $25 per person, rated 4.9 from 167 GetYourGuide reviews. You get there on your own, which makes it the easy add-on to a city day.

Format three: one estate with a full lunch

Turistik’s Santa Rita Winery Day Tour with Lunch and Andean Museum spends a 9-hour day at a single estate: a guided visit, three wines, a three-course lunch, a bicycle among the vines and the Andean Museum. It costs from $207 per person with 4.8 from 426 reviews on Viator, and you board the bus at a city departure point. Santa Rita’s park, main house, chapel and cellars were declared a Historic Monument in 1972. If lunch is the deciding factor, our wine tours with lunch page shows which tours include it and which only stop for it.

Format four: a private car

Private days put your group alone in the vehicle and let you start later or linger. The Private Maipo Valley Tour with Concha y Toro, Santa Rita and Undurraga covers three historic estates in about 10 hours, with lunch and Reserva wine at Santa Rita’s Doña Paula restaurant included, and rates 5.0 from 31 reviews on Viator. Its price depends on party size: from $636 per person for two, $986 for a solo traveller and $434 each for eight. The Private Maipo Valley Tour with Aquitania and Santa Rita is shorter, at 7 to 8 hours with a Chilean lunch, from $290 per person, a price that may vary with group size. Our private wine tours page compares these with private days in the other valleys.

Viator or GetYourGuide for the Maipo

Viator carries most of the Maipo range on this site: the four-winery day, the food trail, the Concha y Toro bus trips, Santa Rita and every private day. GetYourGuide is the stronger pick for Undurraga with a hotel transfer, and it carries the Cousiño Macul heritage tour listed by the winery itself (Viator sells Cousiño Macul’s own tours too). Where both networks sell the same day, check both prices. The four-winery day is $30 cheaper at the from-price on Viator ($119 against $149), while the Marqués de Casa Concha tasting costs from $135 per person on both, with 4.9 from 1,223 reviews on Viator against 4.7 from 92 GetYourGuide reviews for its GetYourGuide twin.

When to go

Tours run all year, and Chile’s tourism board recommends sun protection and a windbreaker for the evening. Harvest runs from February to April, and Maipo harvest festivals fall in March and April. The board advises booking winery visits ahead in high season. If you plan to drive yourself, remember that Chile’s Zero Tolerance law treats 0.3 g of alcohol per litre of blood as driving under the influence, so if you plan to taste, leave the driving to a tour or a hired driver.
